08/20...Fresh Look Lectures Climate
Change for Skeptics
1-2pm
Dr. Curt Stager, Professor of Natural Sciences at
Paul Smith’s College, will be giving a presentation on
what scientists know for certain about climate change in the
Adirondacks, as well as what questions still remain. The talk
will cover the natural causes of climate change and will consider
how current trends suggest that natural causes are not to blame
for the Earth’s rising temperature in recent decades. Dr. Stager
will also discuss how political and social agendas of skeptics
have affected climate change study and the dissemination of facts
to the general public. Stager will also address the positive and
negative contributions so-called skeptics can make to the study of
climate change, its effects and our responses to those changes.
Curt Stager is a paleolimnologist who has been studying
microscopic fossils in ice core samples from Adirondack lakes,
which have helped him to compile a history of climate change in
the Park. Free for
members or with paid admission.

The “Around-The-Islands” races begin at the north end of Tupper Lake, then taking a route southwest passing through the channel between Bluff and County Line Islands and back. It is a novelty to competitive course sailors since it offers a different challenge to skippers’ tactical decision-making, whether to go clockwise or counter-clockwise, and whether to go between Birch and Burnt Islands or around both. “There is no other Regatta that offers such a route nor such a beautiful woodsy and craggy view” For more information please call the Chamber of Commerce at 518-359-3328 or Elmer Richards at 359-9202.
