Tupper Lake History Time Line

Early hunters and trappers begin exploration of the area. Logging comes to Tupper Lake. Log camps grow on the mountain sides and along waterways. The Hurd Mill and others saw millions of board feet of lumber for shipment by rail. The Great Fire destroys all of Park Street and most of up-town Tupper Park Street landmark, the Altamont Hotel, one of the few buildings to survive Great Fire. Busy railroad depot in downtown Tupper Lake, than known as Faust, NY. Sunmount Veterns Hospitol opens to serve veterns suffering from tuberculosis and war-time injuries.
